Michelle Slate and Mark Whitney started See the Globe in 2013 after seeing a need for group travel to once-in-a-lifetime dive destinations. Both are members of the Piedmont Dive and Rescue Association, which owns three quarries in North Carolina. They both spend, on average, two days a week at Lake Norman Quarry either diving or hanging out with other members. They enjoy talking to other divers about various dive destinations are always thinking about where that next dive trip will be.
Michelle: Based in Charlotte, NC for over 20 years. Michelle is an agent for an
ARC accredited travel agency. Growing up in a military family introduced Michelle to
places and people from around the world. She continues to seek out new
destinations now with a focus on SCUBA diving. She has booked many trips throughout the United States, Central America, Europe, Northern Africa and Southeast Asia.
She is experienced with live-aboards and overseas dive travel. Michelle has been diving since 2007 and Tec Diving since 2013; and has earned her Tri-Mix certification. When Michelle is not diving, (is she ever not diving?) she enjoys scrapbooking and chronicling her travel adventures as well as home improvement and spending time with friends and family.
Mark: Based in Charlotte, NC for nearly 20 years. Mark is a Mechanical Engineer by education and supports his diving habit through owning and operating a business that sells automotive aftermarket and sports safety equipment. Mark is working on his Master Diver certification in between working and dive vacations. He has extensive dive experience in the Mid-Atlantic through the Florida keys, Bonaire and Dubai, U.A.E. and is adding more and more adventures to his dive log.
Mark is looking at planning trips several years into the future and continues to make connections around the world in pursuit of finding those once-in-a-lifetime destinations. When Mark is not diving he enjoys…who are we kidding…he is always diving!
